Posted by andrea with 3 Comments

The Amazing Online Magazine The Dream Magazine has an awesome interview with Sasha so read a snippet below and head on over to read the Full Interview and check out a Behind the Scenes Video of the photoshoot on their site!

14-year-old Sasha Pieterse has been gracing us with her talents since the age of 4, but now, 10 years later she has become a household name in the new ABC Family show PRETTY LITTLE LIARS. Sasha plays Alison the dead (or is she?) girl that seems to be haunting her other friends. PRETTY LITTLE LIARS grew fast from the first episode to now one of the most popular shows on TV. “I love the books and I love the whole story and it’s definitely fun to play Alison, I really like to see the scripts come alive so I do watch the episodes.” shares Sasha. Although looking at Sasha and even talking to her you wouldn’t think she is only 14-years-old, but the recent high school graduate assures us that even though her age is a lot younger than her cast mates, they all still get along. “We are all really good friends; they are all really nice and down to earth. We don’t get to see each other much outside of the set, but when we do it’s definitely a lot of fun.” she says. Life changed dramatically for this teen as her show got more and more popular “It got a lot busier there is a lot more going on, more photo shoots, more events, that sort of thing. It’s all been really good.” Continue Reading

Review of Episode 8

Posted by Diana with 10 Comments

Episode 8, “Please Do Talk About Me When I’m Gone.”  I have a lot of comments apparently… xD

“Where did she get that from, a movie?” “Ali was a movie.” Great line and totally true! So Alison.

The Marin money issue wasn’t in the books, but I kind of like it.  It brings Laura Leighton into the show a little more [she’s a phenomenal actress] and gives a bit more insight into Hanna by doing so.  Although I have to say that I think Hanna is becoming a little too nice a little too fast… she was a straight bitch for 2 books before Lucas entered the picture [and he did soften her, let’s all admit] but even afterwards, she never stopped being a pain in everyone’s ass [and I say that with love because she’s my favorite in the books].  In the show, though, Hanna has become incredibly nice incredibly fast.  I feel like she’s not just the same character as she was in the books – or, rather, that they haven’t developed her general persona enough in the show.  Especially when she goes on to sell her purses to help her mom buy groceries.  First of all, the Hanna in the books would never have done that.  Second of all, if she did sell her purses for money, they would not have gone to household groceries.  She’d have sold the old purses to buy the latest one.  Hanna is a rather self-centered character and she’s becoming OOC in the show.

Not liking the Jason they’ve invented in the show either.  In the books, he is neither polished nor anal.  He’s a little more mature when he returns in the books, I think, but still a little emo and a helluva lot less annoying.  Anyone else get irked the moment he opened his mouth?

“… He just kept smiling like he was running for office.” Omg, that’s exactly what he seemed like!  Ugh, politician.  He totally had that vibe, though, which is really funny!

Loving that Hanna said “goober.” xD

The scene where Emily asked Maya on a date was super cute!  They had great chemistry there and it was a lot of fun to watch them goof around while talking about dating.  “Hmm.  I’ll think about it.” =D

I like what they’re doing with Emily’s dad.  In the books, he was nothing more than a background character, someone who melded with Mrs. Fields because they acted together in everything.  By making him a soldier, and by making Emily so obviously attached to him because she rarely sees him, they give him more power as a character.  I’m excited to see what goes down when he returns.

Loving that Lucas got to take pictures of people’s lockers.  That’s all I’m going to say on that. :P

I don’t like that Hanna is selling her stuff because I think it’s OOC [btw, for those who don’t know, that’s Out Of Character], but the scene where Lucas offers to sell them for her is adorable.  Have I mentioned how much I love this pairing?

Wilden is slimy.  Just had to get that out.

Interesting that Ali would tell Jenna she was afraid of the girls.  I’m curious about why… I mean, readers of the books can probably think of a few possibilities, but I’m not coming up with anything solid.  All of the secrets Ali knew were dirty, but not dangerous.  Or could it be that someone is lying?  Was Ali, back in the hospital, or is Jenna?

You know, I kind of got a little Byron/Ashley vibe this episode, but I pushed it aside when I first watched the episode.  After all, Byron is clearly still head over heels for Ella.  I completely forgot about it until I saw this promo for next week’s episode…

The two of them alone in the Marin kitchen for the second episode in a row?  Anyone else wondering if the writers are toying with this idea?

“We’re having a look into Toby Cavanaugh’s locker.” “Why, do you think he’s hiding in there?” It was such a cynical line by Jason, but I still laughed.  Not even sure it was meant to be comedic. xD

“He did or somebody else did using his phone.” I kind of feel like that lines gives too much away. =[  This wasn’t in the books so I can’t say anything for sure about this, but the way that line was delivered and how it ended that scene before the commercial break made it stand out more than I think it should have.  It points super strongly at Jenna, who would have obvious access to Toby’s phone.  I would have felt ten times cleverer if I’d jumped to Jenna without the last half of that sentence because it would have been sneaky.  They’re obviously trying to put Toby as a suspect in Ali’s murder, but that line takes it right back to Jenna.  I think they should have left off the end of the sentence altogether.  Maybe I’m just nitpicking, I dunno, but it just doesn’t sit well with me.

I feel so bad for Lucas when he shows up at Hanna’s house!  The shot with Hanna’s expression when she sees him is super short, but she’s obviously shocked and mortified that he’s there.  It’s like she’s got this whole separate world for her Lucas time and it shouldn’t mix with her popular crowd time.  She acts so awkward that he’s there!  Then he runs out because of the obvious negative energy floating, whether from Hanna or Sean in the kitchen.  I have such a soft spot for Lucas.  Don’t you? =]

Emily taking the initiative in the movie scene, whoa!  Emily is so shy, that’s a little OOC too – in their relationship, Maya is the one who’s always taking control – but it wasn’t such a bad thing.  They’re cute. =]

“Wilden shouldn’t have told me, but he was easy to shake up like most bullies.” There is a lot of information in that line, especially in the tone Parker delivered it with.  “Wilden shouldn’t have told me” could simply mean that Wilden shouldn’t be discussing an ongoing investigation, but combined with the expression on his face and the tone of his voice, I feel like there’s an underlying message that Jason may use this information.  Chances are it’s just Jason being a protective older brother who wants to find out what happened to his sister, so should Toby show up, he’ll just punch him in the face and force Toby to tell him what happened.  It still had that slight air of mischief and mystery, though.  “He was easy to shake up” really made me feel like Jason was proud of his manipulative abilities.  Manipulation… Ali flashback, anyone?  He really is her older brother.  Combined with the previous part of this line, which gave me a creeper vibe, this heightens the danger alarm going off in my head.  “Like most bullies” really doesn’t imply anything about Jason, except that he may have been bullied by Wilden [wasn’t in the books, but you never know what they’ll do with the show].  It was an interesting little fact about Wilden that they slipped in there, probably without half the viewers realizing it.  In high school, Wilden was a bully.  I really hope they go into more detail about just what Wilden was like in high school.  It would be interesting to see it portrayed on screen.

I’m curious to hear what you all think about Alison telling Jason that Spencer was responsible for Jenna’s accident.  Not only did it mean she admitted to her brother that Toby didn’t do it, but she thrusts the blame onto someone else.  Why would she bring it up?  Could it be that Jason somehow already knew Toby wasn’t responsible and when Ali was caught in the lie, she covered it up with another?  I don’t know why she would tell Jason half the truth for no apparent reason.  What do you think?

“You are just like Alison aren’t you?” “In some ways, even worse.” I really like this line just because it points out that Jason knew how horrible Ali was.  In the books, it talks about parents loving Alison because they thought she was perfect, blah blah blah.  It’s good to see that her family saw through to who she really was.

Noel [Brant Daugherty] is really hot.  He may be the hottest guy on the show, I think. :P How about you?  The hottest guy in Rosewood is…?

As OOC as it for Hanna to sell her stuff [again I mention it, but...], everything that came from it was adorable.  The scene with Hanna and Ashley was amazing, they were both awesome. =D

On second thought, I may have to take back what I said about Noel.  Ian [Ryan Merriman] is really hot too.  That’s a hard one.

Btw, for those who remember Ian from the first episode [he briefly is in a flashback with Melissa], this is not the same actor.  The previous actor who was in the flashback is Carlo Marks, who was recast due to unknown reasons.  Since Ryan is some serious eye candy, though, I’m not too upset.

The memorial was sweet.  I really loved Jenna’s speech.

A copy of Alison’s bracelet… it didn’t happen in the books, but anyone who’s read the books has an idea where this might be going… I hate that, if they’re headed that direction, they’ve brought it up so outright so early.

I have to say that desecrating Ali’s memorial bench is low, even for A.  And public.  All of A’s actions have been taken in private, where no one but the girls can see.  The most A has done is send a text where Ezra received it, which may or may not have been on purpose.  Ruining the bench is a very public action that everyone is bound to see and investigate.  Rather un-A-like.  But that’s all going to change in the next episode anyway… :P

That’s enough from me!  What did you think?

Ashley Benson: Secrets, Lucas, Wilden, and Hanna

Posted by Diana with No Comments

“Pretty Little Liars” penultimate episode, “The Perfect Storm,” traps everyone at school. Ashley Benson tells Zap2it that it will not end well for one of the girls.

“A huge secret gets out for one of the main girls,” says Benson. “We all have to take our SATs, so everybody’s stuck at school. There’s certain people that come into the school where we’re all stuck. Detective Wilden, anytime he’s around … there’s just a lot of things that happen that shouldn’t … It kind of destroys somebody.”

Detective Wilden (Bryce Johnson) isn’t the only problem in Hanna’s life, though. She has a budding love triangle with her boyfriend Sean (Chuck Hittinger) and friend Lucas (Brendan Robinson).

“Right now [Hanna and Lucas are] trying their friendship. They know what it was like to be the outcasts … she saw what Alison did to him, she’s a huge support system for him,” Benson explains. “I know a lot of the fans want us to become boyfriend/girlfriend. I have no idea what the writers are going to do, but Brendan is really great, so we’ll see what happens.”

When pressed to declare if Hanna actually has feelings for Lucas as more than a friend, Benson admits, “I think she’s starting to have feelings for him, but she’s just scared to let herself because of who he is. But since Alison’s gone, she’s a stronger person. She’s more down-to-earth and not as stuck up as she was. She stands up to Mona now … Hanna doesn’t really care anymore about her status, she’s more real and who she really is.”

Benson also teases that there is a big event looming for Hanna in the last two “Pretty Little Liars” episodes before the midseason break.

“We have a lot of new characters that are being introduced in these last couple episodes … that create problems. In the very last episode, there’s a huge thing that happens for my character and it’s going to change a lot about my storyline. It’s really good.”

“Pretty Little Liars” airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. on ABC Family.

Pulsejournal.com Interviews Brant Daugherty (Noel Kahn)

Posted by -A with 7 Comments

Pulsejournal posted an interview from a local newspaper in Brant’s hometown, where he talks about his character, Noel, on PLL. Can you believe he originally auditioned for the role of Ezra?

Brant Daugherty always dreamed of a career in acting.

Television viewers saw the 2004 Mason High School graduate live that dream Tuesday, July 27, in “Pretty Little Liars,” an ABC Family show about four estranged friends whose darkest secrets unravel following a friend’s disappearance.

Daugherty initially auditioned for the role of Ezra, a teacher at the main characters’ high school, but ended up cast as Noel Kahn, a popular and athletic Rosewood, Pa., student who appears to be “the typical Rosewood guy,” but is anything but that.

“He’s got a lot under the surface,” Daugherty said of the character, who appeared for just a few minutes several episodes ago. “He’s sort of a renaissance man… very artistic and a bit of a rebel.”

Daugherty also will appear during Aug. 3 and Aug. 10 episodes before the show goes on a mid-season break.

Before moving to Hollywood, the 24-year-old Deerfield Twp. native acted in a plethora of plays during his years in Mason schools.

Helping influence that decision were Mason High School teachers Arlene Borock and Allen Young. Boroco

“Arlene cast me as a freshman in a good part (the governor in “Man of La Mancha”), and really gave me a chance there and Mr. Young put me in a series of good parts, one of which I won an award for, in Cincinnati, for best supporting actor,” he said.

Following graduation, Daugherty attended Columbia College Chicago and earned a bachelor’s degree in film and video production, studying mainly writing and directing. You can find information on film production classes from online colleges if that is a field you would also like to study.

Besides serving as a production assistant on various shows, Daugherty also wrote, produced, directed, acted in and edited “The World’s Smartest Man,” a film student project picked to compete during a Chicago film festival.

He also scored a role in the Web-only series, “Private.”

Although he’s accrued experience on the stage and screen, Daugherty said television offers a different level of exposure.

“I’m reminded of one of my favorite actors, Michael Emerson (who played Benjamin Linus on “Lost”). He did a stage show for years and won all these accolades for it, then guest starred on ‘The Practice’ and so many more people saw that than saw all of his brilliant moments on stage,” Daugherty said. “Television is a beast and it’s amazing to get out there to so many viewers. That’s the kind of thing you can’t do in a film festival.”

Despite his recent television success, Daugherty plans to keep working in whatever medium he can.

“I’m not anticipating sticking to any one thing, television, Internet, film,” he said. “I’m just in it to act. However I can express that is wonderful.”

Mary Beth Daugherty, who has watched her son perform on stage since he was in grade school, said it was fun to watch him on television Tuesday night with him sitting by her side.

“I was so excited,” she said. “But I’m very biased. I think he’s spectacular.”
